5.0 out of 5 stars Best value for the money - Awesome coffee, May 15, 2008

This review is from: Nespresso C100-US-AERO Essenza Automatic Single-Serve Espresso Machine with Nespresso Aeroccino Milk Frother, Titanium (Kitchen)
I was initially reluctant to buy this based on the fact that they use proprietary pods. Had that reluctance stuck with me, I probably would've spent a few hundred more on a high-quality manual espresso machine, or over a thousand on an automatic machine. $.52 a cup is reasonable when you consider that grinding your own works out to about $.30 a cup, but yields a greater mess and requires more soap and water for cleanup each time. With two little kids at home - who has time to clean? I was absolutely giddy the first time I used both the machine and the frother. Separately and together, both machines match or rival what all too many of us pay $3-5 for from the local coffee shop. I'm convinced that our friends will like us more if we decide to share some of this with them. I bought this at Williams-Sonoma based on loyalty as I had sampled it 3 times over a two week period and finally couldn't take it anymore. I had to have one! Consumer reports also ranks this machine highest in its... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent taste and easy to make and clean-up - worth the cost!, December 30, 2009

After a lot of research and knowing how tasty the Nespresso espressos are (free sample at a store a year ago that I fondly remembered), I bought the Nespresso C100 on Amazon in September 2009 for an anniversary present to ourselves. In four months, we have made about 180 cups of cappuccino or espresso for my husband and I and an occasional guest. We make about 2-3 cups during the weekday and more on the weekends.

- Very fast and easy to make, with no mess. Fill up the water dispenser, turn the machine on, pop a colored pod in the maker and close lever. Wait for buttons to stop blinking to show it is heated, then push the button. Enjoy the smell! Very easy to clean - run water through by pressing the button and dump out/wash the tray where the overflow grill is and the basket that catches the many pods.

- Aeroccino froth maker is soooo much easier than trying to use the steam nozzles that most cappuccino maker's have (no splattering and nice, consistent... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Use them every.single.day... sometimes twice., October 14, 2008

Seattle N (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews
I never thought I would go for this machine, I am a little purist and cranky about my morning cup of wonderful - however, I indulged the Nespresso rep at a local Sur La Table - and, wow.

This little combo worked better than The Cube in my opinion, and I love that frother!

Yes, you need the little capsules, but the darker roasts and the "Special Club" are pretty good, and I have many more to try. it helped that the rep tossed in like 5 extra packs of them for me. I found them online here at Amazon for about $6 a sleeve and with my Prime membership it was free shipping. And the rep told me next time I see her she will let me "try" a couple other flavors as well - bonus.

I have made chocolate milks, coffee blends with liqueurs for desserts, decaf cap's at night as well as my new fancy morning beverages.

I have had it for a month and adore it. Sure, a little pricey, but I think I have saved about $57 already in morning coffee shop trips. So that... Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good while it worked, November 13, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This was my first foray into semi-automatic espresso machines, so even though I don't have a lot of experience, I was extremely careful in the treatment of the Brera. I cleaned it weekly, and descaled it on a regular basis. Unfortunately two things happened. About a month ago, every third or fourth espresso started coming out extremely watery. It seems that the beans were not being properly syphoned into the grinder properly. It appears that the machine makes the espresso regardless of whether there are enough beans in the hopper. When they did go in, it would make great crema. Last week, however, it developed an electrical issue. The machine would not prime and after playing with it for a few days, it refused to turn on all together. Ugh. I will attempt to get it repaired, but I am not hopeful. So for 900 dollars I got about 4 months of great espresso and a nice countertop decoration.

1.0 out of 5 stars Extreme disappointment, October 18, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Gaggia Brera Superautomatic Espresso Machine, Silver (Kitchen)
I relied heavily on the brand name and reviews when I purchased this product, but was extremely disappointed upon its arrival. For $897 I would have expected a much more robust structure, but it is almost entirely plastic and, frankly, very chintzy in feel and appearance. I followed the setup instructions precisely but after only 3 cups of espresso, the service door which encloses the brew group warped to the point where the door opens during brewing and shuts the machine off. The coffees it made were not bad, but I literally had to hold the service door shut to keep the brewing cycle on. Gaggia needs to throw some of the $897 at some higher quality materials and rethink the service door design. Another disappointment was the absence of the special water filter. They refer to an "Intenza" filter in the instructions and the product description at both Gaggia.com and Amazon.com say this filter is included, but not so. Only a small molded plastic filter. BUST from beginning to... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars best espresso, but minor problems, January 8, 2012
By
This review is from: Gaggia Brera Superautomatic Espresso Machine, Silver (Kitchen)
I bought the silver version about a year ago to replace an aging Capresso C1000. Unlike the burnt taste and warm espresso with the c1000, this unit produces excellent espresso in both taste and temperature. For your reference, I mostly use Giggia Intenso whole beans.

However, there are some minor problems not related to the espresso produced.

1. After about 4 months of use (latte in the morning), the top silver plating of the frothing handle started to peel off. It turns out that this peeling piece is made of plastic that covers the internal metal frothing tube. However, the paint peels off this plastic since it can't withstand the heat of the steaming hot metal. The part was replaced under warranty, but they charged me $6.95 for shipping. While this piece doesn't affect the functionality of the unit, it sure cheapens the look of the unit.. all for a lousy piece of plastic.

2. The water container is too small. Water has to be refilled after few... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS LITTLE MACHINE, May 18, 2011
By
SEC (NYC, NY) - See all my reviews
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
I worked in an office that had one of these and I just loved the coffee it made. So, I bit the bullet after spending five years making French Pressed coffee and purchased one of these sweet little coffee/espresso makers for my home. I will still make the French Press every once in a while, but this is so great for every day that I don't miss the French Press at all.

To be helpful, the reasons I love this little machine are below:

1) The size is perfect for small counters. It takes up very little space and fits great in the corner where it's out of the way.

2) It comes assembled, so all you need to do is wash the water dispenser, run some plain water through the machine a couple of times and then add the coffee capsule

3) The milk frother is THE best thing ever! It's so simple to use. Add milk up to the minimum or maximum line, put on the lid and press the button and then let it do its thing. It makes the PERFECT milk for your espresso... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Good coffee. Convenient system. Cheapish machine., October 6, 2010

The coffee tastes really good. Don't let snobs and wannabes tell you that Nespresso is nowhere comparable to espresso brewed with a Rancilio or a Gaggia. Nespresso makes excellent espressos, and the capsule system is very convenient and clean. However, the Nespresso machines made by Nestle feel cheap. They are made of low-quality plastic all around. Nespresso could charge a bit more and offer the same Essenza models in metallic casing, instead of cheap plastic.

4.0 out of 5 stars From Luxury to Necessity, September 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
I bought the small machine with aerocino milk frother. I purchased the introductory coffee sampler via Nestle the same day. I received the coffee and machines on the same day, two days after ordering. What do I own a car for? I've had the machine for over a month, and it has replaced my coffee machine. I gave my old espresso machine away within a week. The espresso is incredibly good, and has a nice aromatic rich crema. I believe the machine puts out 19 bar of pressure. It can be calibrated to increase or decrease the volume of the shot or lungo (about 2.5 shots). Nespresso coffee does come with the machine. You get 16 coffee pods. I would highly recommend the introductory offer of 200 pods from Nespresso. You get a nice wooden box which holds about 40 pods with the "wheel" showing each coffee blend with its strength. You get a nice set of books describing the flavors of the blends and the regions they come from. The Lungo coffees have about 25% more grind. Of the decaf... Read more
