4.0 out of 5 stars Tank replaced, machine is wonderful once more!, October 29, 2009
By
This review is from: DeLonghi EC270 15-Bar-Pump Espresso Machine, Black and Stainless (Kitchen)
UPDATE 3: I have now had this Espresso maker for almost two years and it is still going strong. No problems at all since I replaced the water tank. The coffee quality is still excellent. I use the machine daily and descale about once every six weeks or so. I still love the coffee that this machine makes - I get freshly-roasted beans from Peace Coffee online and grind a week's worth at once. This coffee is so good - much better than any coffee house can make. I'd definitely buy another of these machines if this one died. It is easy to use, foolproof, and makes wonderful coffee.

UPDATE 2: I found a replacement water tank fairly cheaply online. It totally fixed the leaking problem. The through-flow problem and pump noises that made me think it was dying seem to be down to the fineness of the grind. I made the grind a little coarser and stopped tamping it so hard (apparently you don't need to tamp the coffee so much for these pressurized portafilter machines). Now it is working... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Machine, love the steam frothing, June 8, 2009
By
A. C. (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: DeLonghi EC270 15-Bar-Pump Espresso Machine, Black and Stainless (Kitchen)
This machine is nicely heavy and strong, normally with every pump espresso machine you have to wait like 5 minutes or more to let it warm up, well this one is ready in seconds, the pump is not noisy at all, the steamer works very nice mixing perfectly the milk with the steam without making boiling the milk before you get a firm foam and that is a good advantage because you can froth directly into your cup instead of using frothing pitcher (less clean to do), the water reservoir can be remove to fill it or it has a lid too, and it comes with two kinds of filters one to use with ground coffee for 2 cups, and another one that can be use with ground coffee for 1 cup or with E.S.E pods( which although they are bit expensive, once you use them you love them cause they are super practical) and at last but not least the fact that this has stainless-steel boiler is a plus since all the small espressos use aluminum which is not that healthy. In general it is very easy to use and to clean... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Insane Leaks!!!, October 21, 2009
By
KW (Portland, OR USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: DeLonghi EC270 15-Bar-Pump Espresso Machine, Black and Stainless (Kitchen)
We had high hopes for this machine, and it was well reviewed and very reasonably priced. The first time we filled the water reservoir a few minutes later we were stepping in water (oh, it leaks.) We cleaned up, filled it up again, and this time carefully ensured it was seated properly. Then we waited. Yep, it leaked again.

After a couple of additional attempts (push it firmly in, gently rest it in place) I decided to turn on the machine...maybe running a cycle or two would fix things. As it warmed up, water started leaking out of the steam nozzle! (first time it was ever used) followed by leaking from the water reservoir.

The manual says nothing about troubleshooting leaks. I think we got a dud, and I'm very disappointed.

3.0 out of 5 stars nicely designed product that makes coffee, not espresso, July 6, 2011

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?)
I love everything about the Capresso...except for the fact that it makes coffee, not espresso. This is the third espresso maker in this price range that I've owned, the previous two being a Starbucks Barista and a Gaggia, and while I like the design of the Capresso the most (1. Capresso, 2. Gaggia, 3. Barista), I like the coffee the least (1. Gaggia, 2. Barista, 3. Capresso). Which - when you get down to the bottom line - is kind of a dealbreaker.

The Capresso does produce a thick "crema" but the coffee is mellow rather than bold. I can turn on the machine, run through a few empty cups of water to heat it up, use my boldest roast, and the coffee that I pull will still be mellow and smooth. If you like mellow, smooth coffee this might be the machine for you. I like thick, bitter, ultra-strong espresso, and the Capresso will not produce it. Also it took a couple of weeks before the new machinery stopped making my coffee taste a little bit like rubber.

For all... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little machine for the one- or two-person household, April 25, 2011
By
This review is from: Capresso EC100 Pump Espresso and Cappuccino Machine (Kitchen)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?)
I ordered the Capresso EC100 Pump Espresso and Cappuccino Machine because I'm tired of spending megabucks at the local coffee shops for espresso beverages. Also, I don't always want to leave the house to get one, especially for breakfast. And finally, by making espresso beverages at home I can control the ingredients and know exactly how many calories I am consuming.

This machine enables you to prepare espresso with a medium, strong, or very strong taste, using either ground coffee or pods. You can prepare either one or two espressos at a time. It also enables you to prepare cappuccinos (by frothing the milk) or lattes (by steaming it). Oddly, the recipes in the manual do not mention how to prepare a café mocha. My own method is to squirt some Hershey's sugar-free chocolate syrup into a latte, add two packets of artificial sweetener, and stir vigorously. The manual does include helpful tips on ingredients. For example, the lower fat milk is the more froth it will... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!, January 3, 2012
This review is from: Capresso EC100 Pump Espresso and Cappuccino Machine (Kitchen)
My husband and I just recently received our Capresso and have made several Cappuccinos, Lattes, and even a Latte Macchiato. They have all turned our great. They are HOT, and delicious. We have NOT had any problems with temperature, as others have said. In fact, I even burnt my tongue on a Latte last night ;-)

The espresso comes out beautifully. The crema is gorgeous. The milk frother is a great addition. We have found that the European coffee brand "Jacobs Kronung" is our favorite. It's a delicious flavor!

Overall, I definitely recommend this product. It's inexpensive and does just about everything you could do with a pricier machine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Machine!, May 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Gaggia 16109 Evolution Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine, Silver and Chrome (Kitchen)
Although I would like the unit to be all stainless, that is unrealistic expectation at this price point. The internals are the same as higher priced Gaggia units and it makes an excellent cup of espresso. I use the Evolution to make a minimum of 4 double shots daily and it never misses a beat. The Evolution is easy to operate, easy to clean and is ready to use in less than 5 minutes. I highly recommend this unit and would purchase the Evolution again.

If you are concerned about the "plastic" exterior, buy the Gaggia Classic or another higher priced unit instead.

2.0 out of 5 stars good coffee, but..., September 12, 2009
This review is from: Gaggia 16109 Evolution Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine, Silver and Chrome (Kitchen)
Why the designers can't make a steam wand that is high enough to get a mug under is beyond me. The housing is cheap plastic and poorly assembled. The ready lights had fallen out and didn't fit right. Molding flash on the plastic parts wasn't even trimmed.

4.0 out of 5 stars The good and the bad, February 5, 2011
This review is from: Gaggia 16109 Evolution Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine, Silver and Chrome (Kitchen)
I traveled in Europe last summer and became spoiled by the amazing coffee so for Christmas my mother bought this espresso maker for me. I had never made or even seen anyone make espresso outside of Starbucks so I was intimidated at first. However, after a few trial and errors, I did it!

The good ...

* the unit looks nice on my countertop with the stainless steel accents
* the espresso is hot and delicious!
* the "ready" lights are convenient since I didn't even know that I had to warm up the machine before using
* the taste is consistant so the machine much be forgiving since I am sure that I am not very good at this yet!

The bad ...

* the directions were in multiple languages and the english section was confusing (I watched several videos on the internet and that helped alot!)
* there were several accessories that didn't come with my unit so I had to spend a little $ before the drinks got easier to make (a frothing... Read more
